"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ:
for it
is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth;
to
the Jew first, and also to the Greek." -- Romans 1:16

What Is
The Peoples Gospel Hour?
July
2007
The PEOPLES GOSPEL HOUR (PGH) is
a radio and literature ministry dedicated to the preaching of the
Gospel of Jesus Christ to the unsaved world and teaching the
precepts of the Word of God. The PGH stands firmly on the King James
Bible and the importance of a holy Christian walk. For more
information regarding what we believe, read
our Doctrinal Statement.

Our
Pastor
Pastor Perry F. Rockwood was saved as a young man in 1936, and
was immediately called of the Lord to preach the Gospel. The Lord
burdened his heart for the lost multitudes
on the way to Hell. In
1943, he was ordained into the ministry of the Presbyterian Church. He was taken up on public trial in 1947 by the presbytery in Halifax
for preaching four sermons against the apostasy in the church, and
consequently resigned. Our pastor then launched out by faith the
same year in starting The Peoples Gospel Hour.
Pastor Rockwood is now
90 years old and continues to actively
direct the PGH ministry, also serving as pastor of
Missionary
Bible Church on Kent Street in Halifax. Pastor Rockwood truly appreciates the
prayers of fellow believers on his behalf, for his continued health
and strength to carry on in the work of the Lord. When asked, "When
will you retire?", Pastor Rockwood likes to respond, "When the Devil
retires!"

booklets entitled:
"Triumph in God" and

Radio Ministry
Pastor Rockwood started the PGH radio ministry in 1947. The first
radio program aired September 5th over CKCL, a radio station in Truro,
Nova Scotia. The Lord has blessed and grown the radio ministry over
the past 59 years. On September 7, 2007, a special service will be
held at Missionary Bible Church to praise the Lord for 60 years of
broadcasting.

Currently, we broadcast on local stations across
Canada, the United States of America, and on several foreign
stations. Our radio programs include: "The Peoples Gospel Hour," a
thirty minute Sunday broadcast; and "Prophecy For Today," a fifteen
minute daily broadcast that airs Monday to Friday.
In the summer of
2002, our radio department underwent major
changes converting from reel tape recordings, to recording messages on
CD. Today, current introductions are added to archived radio
messages from the past. Pray for our radio pastor, who at 90 years of age
is adapting to the new technology of the 21st century with the help
of the radio department staff. May the Lord continue to bless
His precious Word as it is sent forth over the airwaves.

Literature
Ministry
Pastor Rockwood purchased his first printing press and type in
1947. Then, the type was set up by hand and printing was all done
in-house. As with radio, the Lord has wonderfully blessed the
literature ministry down through the years.
Today, the PGH ministry
produces 195 booklets
available through our bookroom and by
mail-order. These booklets cover a variety of topics, including: the
Gospel; studies of books of the Bible; topical studies of the Bible;
poetry; children's stories, etc. The PGH also produces a monthly
publication called The Gospel Standard.
This 16 page booklet
includes: several articles to edify and challenge Christians; an
'Apples of Gold' page; a 'Listeners Write' page; a monthly letter by
Pastor Rockwood, etc. Finally, we also produce a small variety of
Gospel tracts.
The actual printing of all of our literature is done
through an outside printing business. Some of the steps in preparing
the literature are still done in-house, including the folding,
cutting, and stapling of some booklets and tracts.

Our Missionary
Staff
The staff of the PGH come from a variety of backgrounds, but have in
common the desire to serve the Lord as missionaries, sharing with
others the good news of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ and
encouraging fellow Christians. Each weekday morning, we start our
work day with a devotion and prayer time. This is truly the
highlight of the day, as we meet together with the Lord and share
with Him the needs of the ministry and the needs of our radio
listeners who have shared requests with us. What a privilege to come
to God in prayer and acknowledge our love for Him and our dependence
on Him day by day.
*Please
contact us
and let us know if we can share a prayer request
with you.
